Tesla Cybertruck Blast Suspect Shot Himself Before Explosion: Officials
Matthew Livelsberger, 37, a Green Beret soldier, apparently shot himself in the head inside a rented Tesla Cybertruck before it exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Officials confirmed that the truck was filled with fuel containers and fireworks, which erupted into flames following his suicide.
Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated that Livelsberger’s body was identified using his military ID, passport, and credit cards. A gunshot wound to the head and a firearm found at his feet indicated suicide. The explosion injured seven people, but the motivation for the act remains unknown.
FBI Special Agent Spencer Evans said there is no evidence linking Livelsberger to any terrorist organization. Video footage captured the truck parked at the hotel entrance before bursting into flames, followed by smaller fireworks-like explosions.
Livelsberger legally purchased two semi-automatic handguns days before the incident. Authorities noted the blast was unsophisticated compared to what might be expected from someone with his military background. Livelsberger, who served in Afghanistan and was stationed in Germany, was on approved leave at the time.
Investigators initially looked for a link between this blast and the New Orleans truck attack on New Year’s Eve but later ruled out any connection. The Las Vegas explosion is being treated as an isolated incident.
