Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Latest Updates, Key Candidates, Major Issues, and Everything
Polling for the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections began at 7 a.m., with over 1.56 crore voters deciding the fate of 699 candidates across all 70 constituencies. A total of 13,766 polling stations have been set up at 2,696 locations.
To ensure maximum participation, a paid holiday has been declared for employees in both government and private sectors, with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana also granting a holiday due to Delhi’s elections. Voter turnout is expected to play a crucial role in determining the results, as Delhi recorded 62.59% turnout in the 2020 Assembly elections and 56% in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have fielded 70 candidates each, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated 68 candidates, leaving two seats for allies JD(U) and LJP. In the key New Delhi constituency, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is contesting against BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit.
Polling will continue until 6 p.m. as the city awaits the outcome of this crucial electoral battle.
