Delhi Sees 8.10% Voter Turnout by 9 AM Amid Early Morning Rush
Delhi witnessed an 8.10% voter turnout in the initial two hours of polling, as residents stepped out early to cast their votes and avoid peak-hour crowds. Historically, the city has recorded relatively lower voter participation, with the last assembly elections in 2020 seeing a turnout of 62.55%.
Among the assembly constituencies, Mustafabad registered the highest polling percentage at 12.43%, while Chandni Chowk recorded the lowest at 4.5%.
First-Time Voters and Special Voters Participate Enthusiastically
Many young and first-time voters expressed excitement about exercising their democratic rights. Nazmeen, an 18-year-old from Kardampuri, shared her enthusiasm, stating that she voted for leaders focused on improving education. "Education is vital to us, and we want the next government to prioritize this sector. As a first-time voter, I feel empowered," she said.
Similarly, 24-year-old Anil Kumar, who has an intellectual disability, cast his vote with the support of his parents. Although unfamiliar with politics, he recognized key political figures and was eager to participate in the electoral process. His father recounted how Anil had been excited since receiving his voting slip a day before.
Political Leaders Cast Their Votes Early
Several prominent political figures arrived at polling stations early in the morning. Union Minister Hardeep Puri, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, and BJP leaders Bansuri Swara, Harsh Malhotra, and Virendra Sachdeva were among the early voters. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also exercised his voting rights in Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia cast their votes early in the day, along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party candidates Alka Lamba and Sandeep Dikshit.
Efforts to Boost Voter Turnout
To encourage greater participation, the Election Commission has implemented various initiatives, including awareness campaigns and an increase in the number of polling stations. Special booths have been set up in high-rise residential areas to make voting more accessible.
As the day progresses, authorities hope for a higher voter turnout, ensuring active participation in the democratic process.
