Elon Musk Updates X Bio, Hints at White House Role—Not as DOGE Boss
Washington: Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has once again made headlines with an update to his X (formerly Twitter) bio, now referring to himself as "White House Tech Support." This change comes amid his new role heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration 2.0.
Musk, known for his unconventional social media presence, had previously labeled himself Chief Troll Officer (CTO) on X. His latest move follows the Trump administration’s decision to rename the United States Digital Service (USDS)—an initiative originally launched under former President Barack Obama—to United States DOGE Service (USDS). The restructuring aims to modernize federal computer systems and streamline government operations.
Elon Musk’s Role in Government Efficiency
Confirming the change, Musk stated that the rebranded DOGE Services would focus on cutting bureaucratic inefficiencies and enhancing the government’s digital infrastructure. Shortly after this announcement, the “tech support” designation appeared in his X bio, sparking widespread online discussions.
Earlier this week, Musk commented on X that "DOGE is working 120 hours a week," a statement that drew sharp criticism on social media. Reports from WIRED further claimed that Musk had been spending nights at the DOGE headquarters in Washington, D.C., signaling his hands-on approach to government reform.
No Office in the Oval Office
Speculation had arisen regarding Musk’s potential workspace within the White House, with some reports suggesting he was eyeing an office inside the West Wing’s Oval Office. However, President Donald Trump dismissed the rumors, clarifying during a press briefing on January 25 that Musk does not have an office in the Oval Office or the West Wing.
"No, no, it's not Elon's office," Trump told reporters. "We have an office set up to ensure that executive orders are carried out efficiently—so they don't sit idle for months. Around 20 people, possibly more, will be working from that space."
The Mission Behind DOGE
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was established to eliminate bureaucratic red tape, reduce unnecessary regulations, cut government waste, and restructure federal agencies—key elements of Trump’s "Save America" movement.
Both Trump and Musk have claimed that these efforts could save the US government up to $2 trillion. However, economic experts remain skeptical, arguing that such savings would be difficult to achieve without deep cuts to critical social services and federal programs.
As Musk assumes a prominent role in government reform, his approach and policies will likely remain under intense scrutiny. Whether the DOGE initiative delivers the promised efficiency gains or faces political and logistical hurdles remains to be seen.
