Haryana Election Defeat: Mayawati Lashes Out at Jat Community, Calls for Change in ‘Casteist’ Mentality
Following her party's poor performance in the Haryana assembly elections, BSP chief Mayawati has blamed the Jat community for not supporting her candidates. In a strongly worded statement, Mayawati accused the Jat people of Haryana of maintaining a “casteist mentality” and failing to vote for the BSP, despite the party's alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Mayawati pointed out that in Uttar Pradesh, Jat community members have moved beyond caste-based politics, supporting BSP candidates and enabling them to become MLAs and ministers. She urged the Jat community of Haryana to adopt a similar mindset, suggesting that their reluctance to do so led to her party's defeat.
The BSP-INLD alliance secured only a small share of the vote, with BSP receiving just 1.82% of the total. While the BJP won its third consecutive victory in the state, Mayawati’s party failed to make any significant gains, leaving her frustrated with the election outcome. Despite the disappointment, Mayawati assured her supporters that they should remain hopeful and be prepared to carve out their own path in future elections.
This result follows a broader trend of declining support for the BSP in key northern states, as Mayawati faces increasing pressure to revitalize her party’s base.
