Devastating Assault on Israeli Tourist and Homestay Owner in Karnataka During Stargazing Event

BENGALURU, KARNATAKA — A peaceful stargazing outing turned into a nightmare for a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a local homestay owner in Karnataka. Late Thursday night, both women were gang-raped by three assailants near a canal in Koppal, as confirmed by local authorities.

The incident took place around 11:30 PM when the victims, accompanied by three other travelers, were isolated by the perpetrators. The offenders forcibly pushed the companions — including Daniel from the United States and two others from Maharashtra and Odisha — into the canal to prevent them from intervening.

Senior police officials from Koppal have disclosed that the suspects have been identified and arrests are expected imminently. "The culprits are known and will be brought to justice shortly," assured Ram L Arasiddi, Superintendent of Police, who also highlighted the swift action taken by the police in response to the homestay owner’s complaint.

According to the complaint filed by the 29-year-old homestay owner, the group had settled by the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal after a late dinner for what was intended to be a tranquil night under the stars. However, their evening was disrupted when three men approached them on a motorcycle, initially inquiring about a petrol station, and subsequently demanding money, which led to a confrontation and the subsequent assault.

The police have registered a case involving charges of rape and robbery based on the detailed testimonies provided by the victims. The local community and authorities are currently reeling from the shock of the event, which has prompted a broader discussion about the safety and security measures in place for tourists and residents alike.

The police urge anyone with additional information to come forward as the investigation by two special teams continues.
