Early Passion and Career Beginnings

Tell us about your early life, education, and what led you to start your business?

I grew up on the south coast of England, close to the sea, where every weekend, I would see Sunseeker yachts surrounding Sandbanks in Dorset. Even in school, I incorporated Sunseeker designs into my GCSE project.

After finishing school, my father advised me to learn a trade to secure future employment. This led me to the Sunseeker shipyard, where I combined my passion for yachts with electrical engineering, keeping both myself and my family happy. After gaining my qualifications, I progressed through the ranks in aftersales and warranty, traveling worldwide to fix Sunseeker boats.

My first visit to Monaco and Monte Carlo was an eye-opener. I realized that yachts are more than just boats; they represent a lifestyle, memories, and experiences with loved ones. With this new perspective, I saw a clear path to helping captains, assisting buyers, and growing businesses. This led me into sales, where I expanded Sunseeker Charters, moved into management roles, and later transitioned into brokerage and new boat sales.

With a successful business model under my belt, I moved to Hong Kong to take on the Asian market. I worked with Camper & Nicholsons and Northrop & Johnson as a fleet manager before returning to SunseekerAsia as Chief Operating Officer, focusing on business growth, sales, and strategic relationships.

After 10 years in Asia, I moved to Dubai, where I became Chief Commercial Officer for Gulf Craft. In this role, I expanded the distribution network, strengthened dealer and broker relationships, and managed global sales both internally and externally for the group.

Beyond Yachting: A Trusted Name in Luxury

What is your business, and what makes it unique in the market?

When people ask me about my business, I tell them that while I’ve specialized in yachting for the past two decades, my work extends beyond that. Many high-net-worth clients reach out to me because they trust me, not just for yachts but also for private deals involving real estate, luxury goods, and M&A investments.

Ultimately, I’d say I’m in the people business. I once came across a quote that said, "You know you’ve made it when your name becomes the solution." That stuck with me. My goal is for every client, when faced with a challenge, to think, "I’ll call Lee. He’s the best, I trust him. He’s humble, transparent, professional, and ethical. He’ll make it happen." I want to be the person who turns their dreams into reality.

After all, life is too short, so let's take action and make it happen.

Key Achievements and Milestones

What is one key achievement or milestone your business has reached?

I’ve been fortunate to be part of many global awards and have worked alongside some incredible people and teams. One of my proudest moments was leading Gulf Craft to its most successful Dubai Boat Show in 2024.

A manager’s job isn’t just about making things happen, it’s about putting the right systems, training, and support in place. But more importantly, if you’re in a leadership position, your role is to remove obstacles so your team has a clear path to success.

Yes, I’ve won awards, but my greatest achievements are in how I’ve helped my teams succeed. There’s a saying I always remember: People might not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel.

I focus on elevating my teams, removing their challenges so they can shine, sell, and succeed alongside me.

Future Growth and Expansion Plans

What are your future goals for the business?

My future goals are to keep growing so I can help more people. I’ve built a strong presence across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East, and at some point, I’d like to expand into the U.S. as well.

I recently read that true success doesn’t come from focusing on our strengths but from understanding our weaknesses. That resonated with me. I’ve learned that we are in control of building our own support network. By identifying our weaknesses, we can take action to strengthen those areas, ensuring 100% trust from our clients, friends, and family.

Staying Competitive in a Dynamic Industry

How do you stay competitive in your industry?

I believe competition is healthy, it keeps us sharp, but I don’t focus on being better than others in the industry. My focus is on continuous learning and growth. It’s essential to keep your heart in the game and do it for the right reasons. That means not chasing quick money or burning bridges.

For me, every relationship whether with clients or industry professionals is built on trust and longevity. I genuinely have my clients’ best interests at heart and stay real with them. I know I have the right support network to back up my promises and deliver a professional service.

To stay competitive, I don’t just see clients as numbers, I care about what I do, and I care about them.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

I’ve met plenty of people who told me to dim my shine, to stop coming up with new ideas, to blend in, to sit quietly in an office, to walk on eggshells, and to suppress my personality for the sake of others’ insecurities. For a long time, that held me back.

But the moments I stayed true to myself when people saw my passion, my heart, and my authenticity, were the moments they trusted me and wanted to work with me. That’s why my advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is this: No brand succeeds without a USP, so why should it be any different for people?

As long as you’re respectful with your words and mindful of different cultures, the best thing you can be is yourself. You are the USP.

In life, people are quick to criticize but slow to compliment. That’s why sometimes we need to water and feed our own flower, not just everyone else’s. Believe in yourself, be polite, be trustworthy, and most importantly, bring the real you. Don’t copy others, stand out.
