New Orleans Attacker Used Remote Detonator for Explosives: Biden
US President Joe Biden revealed that the New Orleans attacker had a remote detonator in his truck to trigger Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The attacker, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, planted the devices in ice coolers at two locations in the French Quarter before driving his car into a crowd on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Eve. The FBI recovered the two IEDs and confirmed the attacker’s role in placing them just hours before the vehicle attack.
President Biden, speaking from the White House, stated that 15 people, including the attacker, were killed in the incident. The FBI described the act as terrorism, linking the attacker to ISIS. An ISIS flag was found in his vehicle, and he had expressed support for the group in online videos. Biden emphasized that the US would relentlessly pursue ISIS and similar terrorist organizations to ensure they find no safe haven.
Authorities are also investigating a possible connection between this attack and a separate incident in Las Vegas, where a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel, killing one and injuring seven. Both vehicles were rented from the same car rental service, but no evidence has yet linked the two events. Investigations are ongoing.
