Olympic 100m Champion Noah Lyles Begins 2025 Season With 6.62s 60m Win
America’s Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles kicked off his 2025 season with an impressive performance in Gainesville, Florida. Competing in an indoor university meet on Saturday, Lyles clocked 6.62 seconds in the 60m sprint, securing victory in both his heat and the final.
This marked Lyles’ return to the track after a remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics last year, where he claimed gold in the 100m and bronze in the 200m. Despite his strong start, his time of 6.62s placed him slightly behind Jamaica's Olympic 100m silver medalist Kishane Thompson, who recorded a swift 6.56s in his first-ever indoor 60m race held in Kazakhstan on the same day.
Eyes on the World Championships
The 2025 indoor athletics season will culminate with the World Championships in Nanjing, China, scheduled for March 21-23. Lyles will aim to build on his success from last year, where he claimed silver in the 60m at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, finishing behind fellow American Christian Coleman.
Noah Lyles’ performance in Gainesville is an early indicator of what could be another stellar year for the sprinting star, as he continues to cement his legacy on the global stage.
