PM Modi Attends Arabian Gulf Cup Opening Ceremony in Kuwait
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait on Saturday. Invited as the 'Guest of Honour' by Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the event highlighted regional unity through football.
PM Modi expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “This grand sporting event celebrates the spirit of football in the region. I thank His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for inviting me.”
The tournament features eight teams, including GCC countries, Iraq, and Yemen. Kuwait, hosting the event, has won the cup more times than any other nation. PM Modi wished all teams success in the competition.
This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years. Upon arrival, PM Modi was greeted by Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, and other dignitaries. He also addressed the Indian community at the 'Hala Modi' event, emphasizing India's global economic growth and innovation.
The Arabian Gulf Cup continues to unite the region through sports, celebrating the shared love for football.
