Putin on Trump and Ukraine: Sincerity in Ending the Conflict
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday, July 4, that he believes Donald Trump is sincere in his desire to conclude the war in Ukraine. Putin added that he is unaware of the specific strategies the presumptive Republican presidential nominee plans to implement if elected this year.
During a news conference in Kazakhstan following a regional security conference, Putin addressed inquiries regarding Trump's assertions that he could resolve the Ukraine conflict. It is noteworthy that Russia refers to the war in Ukraine as a "special military operation."
Putin remarked, "The fact that Mr. Trump, as a presidential candidate, declares that he is prepared and willing to halt the war in Ukraine, we regard this with complete seriousness."

Putin on Trump's Plan for Ukraine
"I am not, of course, familiar with potential proposals for how he plans to achieve this. This is the critical question. However, I have no doubt about his sincerity, and we support the idea of ending the war," the Russian president continued.
During a recent debate with President Joe Biden, Trump stated that if elected, he would have the conflict "settled" before taking office in January 2025.
This is not the first occasion where Putin has expressed openness to discussions on ending the conflict. However, last month he demanded that Ukraine effectively capitulate as a precondition for a ceasefire.

The head of the Kremlin stated that if Ukraine desires the cessation of Russia's offensive, its soldiers must vacate the country's eastern and southern regions and relinquish control over these areas.
Putin's comments come as Russian troops have made modest advances on the battlefield this year, following a largely unsuccessful Ukrainian counter-offensive in 2023.
Putin on Taliban as Allies
Meanwhile, Putin described the Taliban, a banned organization in Russia, as Moscow's "allies" in combating terrorism due to their control over Afghanistan.
Despite the Taliban being outlawed in Russia since 2003, Moscow has long maintained ties with them. Recently, Putin has advocated for strengthening relations with the Taliban regime.
In Astana, Putin stated, "We must acknowledge that the Taliban control power in the country. In this context, the Taliban are indeed our allies in the fight against terrorism because any governing authority seeks stability within the state they oversee."
Putin acknowledged that the Taliban have "undertaken certain responsibilities" but noted that there are still "issues requiring constant attention from both the country and the international community."
