Sean Astin: “Way Past Time” for a Woman President, Supports Kamala Harris at DNC
CHICAGO — Sean Astin, known for his iconic roles in films like “Rudy,” “The Goonies,” and “The Lord of the Rings,” is making headlines this week not for his acting, but as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention. Astin is lending his support to Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, highlighting the need for a woman to lead the country.
Astin, who supported President Joe Biden following a pivotal debate earlier this year, expressed satisfaction with the campaign’s progress. “Something is happening in the country. It’s not me, it’s bigger than me, it’s bigger than everybody,” he said. “The fever has broken. In my opinion, the fever has broken.”
The actor has been active in rallying support for Harris, including participating in a “White Dudes for Harris” Zoom call in July that successfully raised over $4 million for the campaign. Astin has been traveling extensively for the campaign, visiting states such as New York, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Astin’s dedication is palpable. “I wanted the [Harris] campaign to see that I’m going to leave, like, a Sean-sized hole in the wall wherever they’ll let me,” he explained. “I just want to know I did everything I possibly could.”
Previously, Astin campaigned for Hillary Clinton in both 2008 and 2016. Reflecting on his ongoing support for female candidates, Astin declared, “It is way past time that this country elect a strong and powerful woman as president of the United States of America.”
Astin’s enthusiastic endorsement and tireless campaigning underscore a broader movement within the Democratic Party to champion Kamala Harris as a transformative leader and advocate for change.
