Tamil Nadu Train Accident: Eight Injured in Major Collision
A significant train accident occurred near Kavaraipettai in Tamil Nadu late Friday night when the Bagmati Express collided with a stationary goods train, causing the derailment of 12 to 13 coaches. The express train, running from Mysuru to Darbhanga, Bihar, entered the loop line at high speed and crashed into the goods train. While eight passengers were injured, no casualties have been reported.
Southern Railway officials stated that the train crew experienced a heavy jolt as the train approached the Kavaraipettai station. Instead of following the mainline signal, it entered the loop line at 75 km/h and struck the stationary train. The injured were promptly taken to local hospitals, while a fire in the parcel van was extinguished by the fire brigade.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin immediately deployed rescue teams to the site, closely monitoring the relief efforts. Additional trains have been arranged to transport stranded passengers to their final destinations, while several trains on the Chennai route have been diverted to prevent further delays.
Railway officials are currently investigating the incident, focusing on the signaling error and ensuring that corrective measures are implemented to prevent such accidents in the future. Helpline numbers have been set up for concerned relatives, and all passengers are now safe.
