Taylor Swift Vienna Concerts Cancelled Amid Alleged Terror Plot
The organizers of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna have announced the cancellation of the events following the discovery of an alleged terror plot. Scheduled to take place in Austria, the concerts have been called off to ensure the safety of all attendees. The organizers have assured that the entire booking amount will be refunded automatically.
In a significant security breakthrough, Austria's Chancellor Karl Nehammer confirmed that the planned attack was averted. He credited the prevention to the alert issued by Austria’s Directorate for Security and Intelligence (DSN). “A tragedy was prevented,” Chancellor Nehammer stated.
In a post on X, Chancellor Nehammer expressed gratitude for the cooperative efforts of the police and the newly established DSN with foreign services, which led to the early identification and neutralization of the threat. “Thanks to the intensive cooperation of our police and the newly established DSN with foreign services, the threat was identified early on, combated, and a tragedy prevented,” he said.
Austrian police arrested two individuals on Wednesday, accused of plotting terror attacks at the concerts. The director general for public security, Franz Ruf, made the announcement during a press conference. Ruf partially identified the suspects, revealing that one is an Austrian citizen who had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. “During our investigations, we identified preparatory actions and noted that the 19-year-old suspect had a particular focus on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna,” Ruf explained.
Barracuda.music, the concert organizer, posted on Instagram confirming the cancellation of the three shows scheduled at Ernst Happel Stadium due to the planned terrorist attack. “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone's safety,” the post stated.
Taylor Swift's concerts were scheduled from Thursday to Saturday in Vienna, with an expected attendance of approximately 65,000 people inside the stadium and an additional 15,000 outside. The cancellation aims to ensure the safety and security of all potential attendees amidst the confirmed threat.
