Virat Kohli Stepped Down From Captaincy...': Younis Khan Slams Babar Azam, Cites Indian Great as Example

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has joined the growing list of critics targeting Babar Azam, questioning both his performance and leadership. Younis didn't hold back in his remarks, stating that Babar and other players in the Pakistan team seem to be more focused on talking than delivering results. He cited Virat Kohli’s example, praising the Indian great for stepping down from captaincy on his own terms and continuing to break records worldwide.

In his statement, Younis emphasized that Babar and the rest of the team should focus more on performing on the field rather than indulging in discussions. He said, “If Babar and other top players deliver on the field, then results will be clear to everyone. Our players play less and talk more."

Younis further highlighted Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from leadership to prioritize his performance, advising Babar to take a similar approach. “Look at Virat Kohli. He chose to step down from captaincy on his own terms, and now he's breaking records worldwide. This shows that playing for the country should be the priority," Younis explained, adding that Babar should focus on his cricket, fitness, and work ethic, as these opportunities don’t come around often.

Struggles for Babar and Pakistan

Babar Azam has been under increasing scrutiny, not only due to his prolonged dip in form but also for his captaincy, especially after Pakistan’s disappointing performance across formats. In Test cricket, Babar has failed to score a half-century in his last 16 innings, and Pakistan’s recent home series loss against Bangladesh has only intensified the criticism. This defeat marked the first time Pakistan had lost to Bangladesh in the longest format, and under the leadership of Shan Masood, the team has now lost five consecutive Tests.

Younis Khan's advice comes at a critical time when the Pakistan team is searching for stability and improvement. Whether Babar will take this feedback onboard and follow in the footsteps of Virat Kohli remains to be seen.
